Online edition of RIDCC 2021 on June 24-26

RIDCC invites everyone to visit the first ever online edition of RIDCC on June 24-26. RIDCC received a record number of 417 entries from choreographers from 62 different countries. A luxury where the pre- jury had a difficult task to make a selection of 16 duets. RIDCC supports the up-and-coming talent, during this pandemic, in a safe way by organizing a European edition this year with talented choreographers living in the EU and Schengen countries. RIDCC will take place on 24, 25 and 26 June 2021 in Theater Rotterdam where the talents, jury members and RIDCC partners will meet in an appropriate manner. The audience will experience the wonderful selection of duets digitally in their own living room.

Beautiful selection of European duets

From the 417 entries, the professional jury chose 16 participants for the semi-finals. Initiators of RIDCC Mischa van Leeuwen and Maya Roest about the selection process: “417 duets from all over the world poured in over the past few months. Far more than we had dared dream. It was quite a difficult choice for the pre-judges because all styles are welcome, from commercial to academic ballet, from modern dance to circus arts. We hope the audience will enjoy the wonderful selection of duets. In addition, we are incredibly grateful that so many talents trust RIDCC as a platform to further their careers.” The contestants are: David Gross & Matteo Santoro (CH/IT), Dafin Antoniadou & Alexandros Vardaxoglou (GR), Emma Evelein & Remy Tilburg (NL), Erika Maria Silgoner (IT), Vaikonur – Ester Guntín (ES), Vittoria Franchina & Giovanni Leone (IT), Giovanni Insaudo (IT), Lea Ved (US), Lucas Valente (BR), Maciej Kuźmiński (PL), Pablo Girolami (ES), Robert Doveri (IT), Sofia Nappi (IT), Danielle Huyghe & Alexandra Verschuuren (BE/NL), Winston Ricardo Arnon & Pamela Monreale (NL/IT) and Zoi Efstathiou (GR).

Enjoying talents from the comfort of your own living room

The selected choreographers come, under strict protocol and testing policy, to Theater Rotterdam and attend coaching sessions by Peggy Olislaegers and other master classes. They’ll experience networking moments with each other, the partners and jury members of RIDCC. Although the format is different from previous years, RIDCC offers the audience the chance to watch the semi-finals and finals from their living room, balcony or garden. Before the curtain closes at home, the audience can even choose their own favorite to go home with the Audience Award.

RIDCC Awards, productions and partners

In order to offer opportunities to choreographers, RIDCC has partnerships with (inter)national dance companies and institutions. With these partners, the winning choreographers are given the opportunity to develop and significantly increase their name recognition. The companies that present a Partner Award are: Het Nationale Ballet, Introdans, Nederlands Dans Theater, Codarts Rotterdam, Conny Janssen Danst, Club Guy & Roni, Maas Theater & Dans, Skanes Dansteater and Avant Garde Dance.

In addition to these Partner Awards, RIDCC presents the largest and most unique choreography prize in the dance world: the XL Production Award, a co-production between RIDCC and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, made possible by Stichting Droom en Daad and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. This award enables the winning choreographer to create a complete independent production worth €100,000 and go on tour around the country.

RIDCC

RIDCC offers choreographers several great opportunities and chances to enter the dance field in a professional way. RIDCC aspires to be the best possible springboard for choreographic talent. The competition with a unique collection of choreographers in all conceivable dance styles is the most important part of the festival. The awards offer unique visibility, a network and the knowledge of a production process within a company. In this way RIDCC offers the opportunity to enter the dance field in a professional manner under the guidance of RIDCC and a partner from a renowned dance company or institution.
